October 17 & 18, 2009
Once again, the Friends of DuPont Forest will sponsor the Tour de Falls, a 12 mile tour by shuttle bus to four of DuPont State Forest’s spectacular sites: Triple Falls, High Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Lake Julia. The Tour will take place on Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18. Shuttles will run from 9 am until 3 pm, allowing visitors the chance to enjoy each site for as long as they like. Three of the sites have shelters with picnic tables and benches. Visitors are encouraged to bring their cameras and take short hikes to enjoy the beauty of the falls and lake, all of which provide beautiful backdrops for family or scenic photographs. FODF will have volunteer members on each shuttle and at the four stops to provide information about the history of the forest and the work now being done to preserve and protect it. At Lake Julia, the last stop before returning to the parking lot, refreshments will be served in the rustic lodge overlooking the lake.

DuPont State Forest is located in both Henderson and Transylvania counties in mountains of western North Carolina. The beginning of the tour is located adjacent to the Buck Forest entrance on Staton/DuPont Road. No advance reservations are required. A $10 per person donation is requested. The Tour generally takes about 2 hours, depending on how long participants choose to spend at each stop.

The parking lot and shuttle bus loading area for the tour are located near the Buck Forest access to DuPont State Forest on Staton Road. Signs will be posted along Staton Road to direct you to the parking lot.

Directions from Asheville: Take I-26 east to Exit 40, and take NC-280 toward Pisgah Forest. Turn left (east) on US-64 and go 3.7 miles to the Texaco station in Penrose. Turn right on Crab Creek Rd. and continue 4.3 miles. Turn right on DuPont Road for 4.0 miles (turns into Staton Road). Go past the Hooker Falls Access to Buck Forest Access Area of the left.
