The fabulous Chestoa View overlook (elevation 4,090 ft) is easy to miss as you drive the Blue Ridge Parkway. It's one of the best vistas on the Parkway! Watch for the small sign for the parking area at Milepost 320.8. From the parking area, take a short (1/4 of a mile) walk to the rock-walled viewing area. Enjoy great views of the rugged Linville Gorge. The 12,000-acre Linville Gorge Wilderness in the North Carolina Mountains is part of the Pisgah National Forest.
From the overlook, see Grandfather Mountain to the left and Table Rock to the right.
Fall color usually peaks mid to late October.
Also find a 6/10 of a mile easy trail with another view of Table Rock (pic above). It's perfect for a forest stroll. At the end of the trail is a loop that takes you by several mountain views.
Back at the parking area, find several picnic tables. Nearby are Linville Falls, The Orchard at Altapass and Crabtree Falls.
Chestoa is derived from the Cherokee word for rabbit. See more overlooks on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
